You Need RITUALS In Your Life

Beauty, Skincare, RITUALS, Gift

This post is not sponsored. I received the products as a Christmas gift from my sister. Thanks Heather ♥! The links are affiliate links, at no cost to you but I do receive a small amount as a “Thanks for the introduction.”

We are only one month away from the next season change and the weather is slowly showing signs reflecting that. I, for one, am extremely excited for the tulips I planted in the fall to bloom! As the seasons change, I believe in taking this transition period and changing ourselves as well; It’s the perfect opportunity to start a new habit or ritual to address an area you need improvement in. One area I am lacking in is definitely self-care. I have uncomfortably dry skin and it requires constant hydration in the winter. Most products require multiple and consistent application to really have an impact on me and yet I am a very low maintenance person. As I became an adult, body care just become a chore and a hassle which is why I want to take this time to change my perspective on this. I want to create a pleasurable ritual and to let this become a time to relax and wash away all the stress of the day or week.

Christmas is long gone by now but not the gifts we received. One of the items I opened on Christmas day was The Ritual of Ayurveda Gift Set from RITUALS, a brand focused on bringing the spa experience of pleasure and relaxation to your home making it the perfect brand to utilize for my goal..

“Balanced living is the principle behind Ayurveda, the science of life. This ancient wisdom from India helps you to improve health and well-being by cleansing and nourishing your energy. The Ritual of Ayurveda has been carefully designed to support this philosophy and offers a collection of luxury home and body care products that help balance body, mind and soul.”

RITUALS Site

Even if you aren’t interested in Indian history, Ayurvedic practices have been used for thousands of years successfully, so you KNOW they’ve been honed to help you be your best!

Indian Rose and Himalayan Honey are the main attractions the “red line”, as I call it (each collection has its own distinctive color). Indian rose is used to bring out positive energy, with its sweet and light scent. Due to the special quality of Himalayan Honey, it has medicinal properties as well as its inherent moisturizing effect. Honey historically has been used by most civilizations for its antibacterial ability and to create a protective barrier on wounds. I remember as a child my mother would sometimes slather some honey on a freshly cleaned, scraped knee or a mysterious cut that seemingly appeared out of nowhere.

Side Note: You’ll notice that on the shower cream there is a different name than previously mentioned. Last year, RITUALS renamed the “red line” to The Ritual of Ayurveda, which honestly is more on-brand for their ethos but is quite a mouthful for the customer!

My gift set came with 5 full-sized products and a bonus journal. Read on for my ritual, including WHAT order I use them in and HOW I use them.

The Ritual of Ayurveda Foaming Shower Gel

(Formerly Yogi Flow)

Your first step on the self-care journey is the shower gel: It comes out as an oily gel but quickly expands into a foam, faster than I could take a photo. This is used just like you would a body wash (don’t let the old name throw you) and which is reflected on the new design. It’s great to use on a day where you don’t want a full body scrub, leading us to our next product.

The Ritual of Ayurveda Body Scrub

76699a44-e8ca-461f-9448-5adc1cfce0d2

This is a new favorite body scrub for me! It’s very granular and when you scoop it out, it seems as if you didn’t grab enough of the oil but trust me, you did. Once you wash off the rough scrub your skin is magic covered in a thick layer of sweet almond oil. Side note: There is a temporary cooling sensation due to the peppermint oil, so I would recommend against using this on the same day as shaving. Learned my lesson the hard way on that one… Another lesson: Do not use this before shaving, as the oil will clog your razor rendering it useless until cleaned.

The Ritual of Ayurveda Body Cream

(Formerly Honey Touch)

d737ec3d-9ebd-4c0e-b6c0-86ddb7ac26d0

The body cream, to me, is the pièce de résistance. It has the sweetest smelling rose scent I’ve experienced and that makes it even more appealing accordingly (floral scents give me painful headaches but this doesn’t!). Starting out thick, the cream becomes easier to spread as your body heat warms it up. When scooping out product you’ll notice it feels like putty but don’t let that fool you: lightly run your fingers over it, don’t dig, and you’ll get enough product out for one forearm. For larger areas judge accordingly (the massive glob on my hand would work for one calf). The cream dries down quickly to an almost powdery feel. Honestly, I just save this for the top half of my body and use Aveeno for the legs, because unless you do yoga why waste it on a part you can’t smell? 😉

The Ritual of Ayurveda Bed and Body Mist

(Formerly Chakra Water)

b2251694-2d89-4fa9-bdbd-990ad4898d05

A mist that can be used on you and safely on your linens? Yes, Please! This spray perfectly complements the cream, acting as a finishing touch to seal in the lovely sweet rose scent. To initiate the end of the ritual, I love to spray my bed a few minutes ahead of time to give the scent a moment to settle down.

The Ritual of Ayurveda Scented Candle

After you spritz your bed, take this opportunity to light the candle and grab your book or journal. In the amount of time it takes you to collect your items, maybe even some water or tea, the scent will become subtle enough to be present in your senses but not overwhelm them. Once you complete this ritual a few times, your body will automatically recognize the scent trigger and will do all the de-stressing for you. As the journal tells us:

“Enjoy the little things in life. One day you’ll look back and realize they were the big things.”
