Fragrances possess a unique power to unlock treasured memories, evoking moments like the aromatic mint bush in my grandmother’s backyard or the salty breeze from a high school trip to the New Jersey shore. These scents, whether from nature or the lingering aftershave of a dearly missed loved one, transcend mere olfactory experiences. In my daily routine, perfumes and colognes become more than scents; they morph into sources of comfort and resilience, empowering me to face life’s challenges head-on.
Much like countless others, I suffer from allergies that limit my exposure to most floral perfumes or scents reminiscent of “clean linen.” Choosing a fragrance is a thoughtful process for me; I take the time to wear a sample for at least a day, ensuring that the perfume not only appeals to my senses but also doesn’t trigger headaches or discomfort. Explore with me as I share insights into my favorite fragrances and how they’ve become indispensable allies in my daily journey.

Cherry Ambition by The 7 Virtues, a natural, clean perfume brand, has become my current favorite. When I heard that cherry perfumes were trending this fall, I definitely had my doubts but this one made me a believer. Think cherry pie, but a mildly sweet version with a lingering woody smell. I am addicted to finding reasons throughout the day to inhale the scent on my wrists.

Chriselle Lim’s Plur scents can be difficult to describe. They truly evoke a feeling instead of being able to pick a part the scent into its layers. Father Figure was released this fall and quickly made it into my top five perfumes. This reminds me of my dad, someone that never wears cologne but always smells clean with a slightly woodsy aftershave. Wearing this comforting scent makes me feel as if I’m wrapped in a weighted blanket.

Another intoxicating perfume from The 7 Virtues, Vanilla Woods, is my signature scent. Easy to layer with other perfumes or on its own, Vanilla Woods is more caramel sweet than cotton candy sweet with a slight oak bottom note.

Jo Malone’s main line is your classic English cottage garden, which means I can’t wear it. Thankfully, they have their Intense range, filled with heady, more exotic scents such as Oud, Myrrh, and dark amber. Myrrh & Tonka is deep and mysterious, reminding me of some of Chanel’s classic scents vaguely gourmand.

Flowerbomb is Viktor & Rolf’s most successful release but I was so happy when they released their less floral, more sweet Nectar scent. If you aren’t able to wear Flowerbomb, Nectar is your chance to join the Viktor & Rolf family.

When I first smelled Orange Bitters in store in Seoul seven years ago, I knew I had to buy it. When you move abroad, it can be so easy to become homesick. Smelling this scent transported me back home, even for that short moment. The cologne is like the slightly sweet, decorative orange used on a Manhattan at the bar. Don’t miss your chance, Orange Bitters is a limited-edition release by Jo Malone only available during Christmas season.

Missing Person is by far Phlur’s most viral scent. Comforting and simple, it somehow manages the difficult task of smelling like the natural scent of clean skin. This scent is perfect for those wanting a perfume but not wanting to smell like they rubbed rose petals on themselves.
